Background
Pachacutec will not be found on most maps even though more than 500,000people call this sandy, arid, hilly area 1 1/2 hours north of Lima, Peru, their home.
In an effort to “clean-up” the Peruvian capital of Lima, government authorities trucked destitute families out of the city with the promise of free land and housing. No infrastructures were in place, and the community is still without running water and modern sewers. Most families live in tiny houses built from panels of woven reeds.
Having little to begin with, the people of Pachacutec are some of the very poorest in the 11 million person greater Lima metro-area. Their poverty breeds disease, and there is almost a total absence of nearby medical facilities. Social ills also beset Pachacutec. Faced with lack of work, many fathers abandon their families. Mothers cannot provide for their children alone, and often dump them to the care of other relatives, who are also unable to adequately care for them.
Unwanted and marginally wanted children spend increasing amounts of time on the dusty streets, hungry and needing direction. It is our goal to provide for them a solid spiritual and emotional environment where they can learn about their God and grow into the persons that He intended them to be.
Project Profile
In keeping with our goal to foster care for Peru´s marginalized children and people in general, Restoring Hope International would like to step into the gap and give hope to the inhabitants of Pachacutec.
Our goals are:
- To help at risk children and adults by providing them a spiritual haven in the midst of the turbulence of poverty.
- To provide children and adults with medical aid, food and other basic necessities.
- Construction of a school that will provide a quality education to the children of that area.
These projects are currently being developed in two stages:
Stage I
-
A church and meal facility have been constructed on site. This is allowing us to meet the spiritual, social, and immediate physical needs of some of this area’s malnourished children, malnourished single mothers, and senior citizens.
Stage II
Construction of 2 school buildings that will house preschool through graduation from high school. It is important that young minds have a high quality education that will not only help them to excel academically but will help them to get orientated away from a poverty mindset and to know the blessings that God wants to impart unto them. This school also houses the aforementioned meal facility on behalf of poor children, single mothers, and senior citizens.
We invite you to participate in a program that invests in the lives of people, both young and old who, apart from your help, will not know hope in their lives. Some of the world’s brightest potential is within the marginalized children of our world. God wants these children to know His promise stated so well in Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you…plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Let’s help them become the people God intends them to be!
