Project Profile
Targeted Children
We, at Restoring Hope International, are committed to rescue at-risk children around the world with a special focus on female children. Female children, all around the world - to include Peru, are most at-risk and vulnerable when exposed their society’s negative elements. Let us give you just one example, a true story that explains what can and does happen to a female child growing up in a rural community where poverty and ignorance rule the day:
Juanita (not her real name), became a mother at the age of 13. Living in abject poverty in the Andes Mountains, her mother left the area in which she and her family live in order to work in the fields. She had to leave her 12 year old daughter in the care of her (the mother’s) new husband. Living in dirt and with farm animals, fleas and lice, impoverished rural families will often share a common bed in their small one-room shacks. Such was the case of Juanita. 9 months later, this young girl lost her childhood upon giving birth to her first baby – and not only once but twice to the same man, her stepfather. Too weak to defend herself and afraid to do anything out of fear for her younger sibling’s well being, her cycle of abuse continued. |
